A new HQE ® reference documentation for refrigerated warehouses

Certivéa adds to the NF Tertiary certification - Logistics Platforms a new HQE ® reference documentation specific to refrigerated warehouses. This was achieved with the help of Afilog and its « HQE ® / refrigerated » working group led by Gilles Saubier, Afilog Administrator and STEF-TFE Director for real estate.

The « logistics Platform » reference documentation had to be amended in four major ways to accommodate refrigerated warehouses specificities:

1 - Energy Management / Refrigeration equipment performance
A sub-target "4.4 Design of the refrigeration plant" has been specifically created to include the cold generation system. The efficiency of the system and the CO2 emissions of the refrigerant used are the two major areas of concern. An Igwp (Indicator Global Warming Potential) has been specifically created to quantitatively assess the performance of the system.

2 - Energy Management / Performance of the shell
The design of the cold warehouse is not subject to thermal regulation. If was therefore not possible to evaluate its performance with QEH Tertiary tools (calculation of "Ubat). Consequently, a requirement for the thermal resistance of walls has been created with numerical thresholds for each performance level. In practice, the manufacturer can compare the performance of its walls (the "Uparoi") with these thresholds  and do without a "Ubat calculation.

3 - Maintenance - Durability of environmental performance
Certivéa intends to reformulate this target for all reference documentation as they come for reviewing. The addendum "refrigerated warehouse” anticipates the upcoming revision of this area. It was prepared according to a new division specific to cold storage: system design for easy maintenance (7.1), means for consumption monitoring and control (7.2), means for performance monitoring and control (7.3).

4 - Energy Management / Taking into account temperature ranges
The addendum is a tool designed for and adapted to cold storage. Energy performance requirements are set for three types of temperature-controlled warehouses: (cold negative temperatures, positive temperatures 0 / +5 C and 5 to 12 C.

STEF-TFE is seeking to have a new refrigerated warehouse (cold negative) built in Vendee certified, as part of a pilot test of the new repository. The goal is to obtain this first certification before the end of 2010.
