The European specialist in cold logistics seized this opportunity to announce,100% of its fleet will be EURO 5 by the end of 2011, new initiatives for an ever more clean fleet

Invited by SCANIA Production Angers and SCANIA France, Jean-Charles Fromage, Managing Director of STEF-TFE received the keys of the 150,000th truck assembled by SCANIA at its plant in Angers. On this occasion, Jean-Charles Fromage listed major initiatives launched by the European cold logistics group in favor of a refrigerated road transportation of perishable goods ever more respectful of its environment. As the owner of one the largest fleet in food logistics, the Group is actively engaged in buying new equipments and testing all emerging technologies.

COMMITMENT to EURO 5: 100% by the end of 2011

STEF-TFE implements a proactive policy of renewing its fleet with Euro 5 vehicles, to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants. 100% of its French truck fleet will be Euro V by the end of 2011, versus 50% at the end of 2009.

INNOVATION IN REFRIGERATION UNITS

The group spares no effort to find innovative solutions which are safe, respect the environment and reduce energy consumption. Dedicated teams are conducting trials to replace synthetic refrigerants used in refrigeration units for vehicles, with liquid nitrogen, which does not emit CO2.

STEPPED UP TESTING OF ELECTRIC AND HYBRID VEHICLES

The group is experiencing new solutions to deliver goods in the heart of cities in partnership with wholesalers, city councils and manufacturers aware of the issues linked to the transportation and logistics of goods in urban areas. The testing of muffled trucks and hybrid vehicles will intensify during the first quarter of 2011.

  • A 12 ton electric straight truck  in early 2011 (-50 tons of CO2  per year per vehicle)
  • A hybrid diesel / electric straight truck in June 2011 (-13 tons of CO2 per vehicle per year)
  • A cryogenic electric straight truck in late 2011 (- 63 tons of CO2 per vehicle per year)
