More responsible cooling for buildings

We are continuing our efforts to both optimise and reduce our energy consumption. Our aim is to use 100% low-carbon energy in our buildings by 2025.

Optimising energy management

STEF is continuing to reduce its electricity consumption thanks to its EMS (Energy Management System), undergoing continual development since 2013, and the use of Artificial Intelligence to control its cold production facilities. These systems have reduced electricity consumption by 20% in five years (in kWh consumed per tonne of goods handled at the quay).

At our sites outside France, which are not subject to the ISO 50001 procedures, we have decided to carry out systematic energy audits to achieve additional energy savings. Renewed in 2020, ISO 50001 certification is still held for France.

We have also chosen to develop self-generated energy by installing photovoltaic panels. In 2025, the Group had 74 power plants in operation, with an installed capacity of almost 50,4 MWp ; generating more than 50 GWh a year

Innovating and testing new solutions

Hydrogen is one of the solutions being considered by STEF. A dedicated team has been set up to study the various production methods and possible uses. The Group plans to test new solutions for the production, storage and sharing of electrical and refrigeration energy.

Since September 2024, STEF has been producing hydrogen using an electrolyser in its Energy Lab at its Madrid site. We have also deployed a fleet of handling trucks equipped with hydrogen fuel cells in Athis-Mons and Madrid.

At the same time, STEF is continuing its plan to replace refrigerants with fluids with low global warming potential.

Night of Corporate Social Responsibility

FAt the 9th edition of the Nuit de la Responsabilité Sociétale des Entreprises (Night of Corporate Social Responsibility), STEF won 3rd place in the CSR Brands and Projects category. This award recognises 10 years of commitment to energy management.

Lean & Green

In 2023, STEF Spain obtained its first “LEAN AND GREEN” STAR for achieving the objective to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 20% (CO₂e emissions/t of goods, reference year 2019) in its transport processes, two years ahead of its initial objective.

“Lean and Green” is the largest European collaboration platform that aims to help companies across all sectors reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
