STEF: a well-established disability policy

As part of the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities 2023, we take a look at the Group's disability policy through three initiatives.

Recruitment: when diversity is a strength

At STEF, the well-being of our employees is a priority and we do our utmost to provide them with a suitable working environment that encourages their personal development.

In terms of recruitment, we have been committed for several years to guaranteeing equal opportunities in access to employment, because we are firmly convinced that diversity is a strength. We pay particular attention to the integration of people with disabilities. Since 2007, we have been implementing a committed disability policy, which continues to expand.

What drives us today is to combat the clichés associated with our professions and demonstrate that they are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

STEF supports its disabled employees

Because our employees are our greatest asset, we do everything we can to keep people with disabilities in work and to facilitate their mobility.

Laurent had been working for many years as a dock agent at our Bain-de-Bretagne site when he was involved in a serious road accident. The disability mission and the HR teams at Bain-de-Bretagne and Le Mans then worked together to enable Laurent to join another STEF site at his request, in a position adapted to his disability.

Very soon after his accident, we launched a support programme to see what was possible internally, as Laurent really enjoyed his work. We then started work with an ergonomist to show that a job adaptation was possible.

Following the ergonomist's recommendations, the Le Mans site added a side bar to Laurent's trolley to secure his balance and fitted his jacket with Velcro fasteners. 3 and a half years after his accident, Laurent was able to return to STEF at the site of his choice. He is now very happy to have returned to work and has integrated perfectly into his new team.

It was the human values embodied by the company that enabled us to move forward and find solutions for Laurent.
